Meian Dojo Activities

During our swordsmanship gatherings, we focus not only on martial arts, feudal Japan, and the art of tea, but also on hosting events for small groups as well as the general public.

Liberec Taikai

A gathering of Japanese swordsmanship enthusiasts hosted in Liberec, traditionally held in both autumn and spring. Participants in the Gekiken and Tameshigiri Taikai as well as their guests and companions are warmly welcome.

Gekiken Taikai

A full-contact swordsmanship competition using padded training weapons.

Find out more on the official website of the All-Czech Gekikenjutsu Federation, of which we are a member.

Tameshigiri Taikai

A competition in technically precise target cutting, typically using wetted rice straw mats. This discipline tests the quality of both the sword and the practitioner.

Samurai Procession

An annual traditional samurai procession through the center of Prague. It directly precedes following events, typically Taikai or festivals (such as the Hanami Festival).

Hanami Festival

A festival celebrating spring (and the blooming sakura flowers in Japan). In recent years, it has been held in Prague – at the Strahov Monastery grounds and the Clam-Gallas Palace.

Public Events

Demonstrations and lectures, such as those held at the Liberec Fantasy Pub (formerly Zapomnění) or at various festivals like ComicCon or Advik.

Seminar Participation

Participation in seminars led by Japanese masters, as well as organizing our own seminars.

European Herritage

There is a fine line between the katana and the saber. We represent Czech swordsmanship at international gatherings and competitions as well.
